It isn't really, It is a mobile version coming to the PC for the first time. This line does make it sound like it is the original experience that is returning to PC. I know it is just hype talk but it does give you the wrong idea (It did for me at least) Colin McRae Rally, the ultimate off-road racing game experience, returns to PC So it say that the new CMR shares the same damage model is a bit disingenuous.Īnd some of the other wording just sounds a bit misleading. It freaked the crap out of me and it was the only game of it's time that had that, even modern games don't do that. I remember another time I was doing a night rally and my lights cut out halfway through the rally. And if you didn't repair stuff or you got it severely damaged then you would have mechanical failures, like the electrics stopping and the lights cutting out, gearboxes dropping gears, diffs breaking and losing 4WD. I think in the remake you have like 4 things you can repair and the original had 11. In the original you had so much more you had to repair. The damage is nowhere near the level of CMR 2.0, in CMR 2.0 if you damaged you gearbox would would drop gears, I remember limping home on one rally with only 5th gear! In the new remake I haven't seen any real impact on car performance other then a screeching noise and visual damage. I have played both recently and they handle very differently. It doesn't have the handling, damage or physics model of the original. With the critically acclaimed Colin McRae Rally handling, damage and physics model under the hood

Plus they got rid of the Group B and Mk2 Escort which were my favourite I would say make it clear that it is a mobile port and not a full HD PC remaster of the original. It missing more that half the tracks (Kenya, Finland, United Kingdom, Sweden, Japan and Italy) which were probably my favourite stages. There is only Australia, Corsica and Greece. Missing half the cars, half the tracks and the detailed cockpit is a real shame.

EDIT: oh wait, I can't! they didn't include the Rally of Finland! Let me reword my first analogy a little bit "Saying it is based on Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is like saying it is the FIRST EPISODE of the "Made for TV" Mini-series based on the movie based on the book."
I might just play it until I get to the Rally of Finland so I can compare it to my recent CMR 2 video. I see you got quoted in that video didn't even know there was a give away.
Saying it is based on Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is like saying it is the "Made for TV" Mini-series based on the movie based on the book. It is a shame they don't say it is a mobile port in Steam. Nerd³ stuff is pretty funny and he is not wrong. I would rather they take their time and bring out a really awesome DiRT game, rather than rushing it like they did with DiRT Showdown.Īlthough Nerd³ is by no means the go to person for racing game reviews, he seems less than pleased with the game, and I kind of agree with him to be honest The fact that it is taking a while to come out is a good thing for me. My only hope is that they don't do the same blurry cockpit etc for the next DiRT.
I could be wrong, maybe they are holding off DiRT for a new engine for next gen. That is still going to be on current gen so it looks likely they will stick with the EGO engine for the next DiRT game. In terms of next gen graphics, it looks highly unlikely with the announcement of F1 2014 this week. How I like to think of it is that it is fundraising for the next DiRT game :D I don't think this would have taken much time away from the development of the next DiRT game because it is just a port from the mobile version using the Unity engine. With the new graphics in this version I only remember parts of the tracks. When I replayed the original I remembered the tracks straight away, even though I hadn't played it for a decade. Yeah, having played CMR2 and the physics are much better in the original.

Come on codies we want the new DIRT game (which it must be like old colin mac rae games, focused on pure rally!) with next-gen graphic's engine ! :s also the physicks are better in originla game. Yeah i agree, the cockpit in remake is too blurry and dark and not detailed like in grid autosport.
